Erbium:YAG laser-assisted cataracts surgery
-
The authors conducted a prospective nonrandomized case series using the Er:YAG laser for cataract removal in 15 patients. Complete removal of the cataract with the laser alone was possible in nine eyes. A conversion to ultrasonic phacoemulsification was utilized in six eyes. No laser-related complications were noted during a follow-up period of 6 weeks. This is the first published series of patients undergoing Er:YAG laser-assisted cataract surgery

Modeling of erbium:YAG laser-mediated explosive photovaporization
-
The authors used a model for laser-generated bubble expansion and studied ablation rate and thermometry. They demonstrated that tissue ablation depends on radiant exposure, whereas temperature increases, bubble size, and peak pressure depend on total pulse energy. They recommend that efficient ablation can be achieved by delivering low-pulse energy at high repetition rates
