A preliminary report comparing magnetic resonance coronary angiography with conventional angiography

7 Manning WJ, Li W, Edelman RR. A preliminary report comparing magnetic resonance coronary angiography with conventional angiography. N Engl J Med 1993; 328:828-832. Two dimensional coronary magnetic resonance angiography was performed on 39 subjects who later underwent conventional angiography. Images were assessed by observers blinded to the conventional angiographic data. For hemodynamically significant (≥ 50% diameter) stenoses, sensitivity was 90% and specificity was 92%.

Two-dimensional coronary MR angiography: Analysis of initial clinical results
-
8 Duerinckx AJ, Urman MK. Two-dimensional coronary MR angiography: analysis of initial clinical results. Radiology 1994; 193:731-738. Two-dimensional coronary magnetic resonance angiography was performed on 20 patients who had undergone conventional angiography. Results were assessed by radiologists blinded to the conventional coronary angiography results. For hemodynamically significant (≥ 50% diameter) stenoses, average sensitivity was 63% and specificities for various vessels were in the range 37-84%.

J Magn Reson Imaging 1997; 7:644-651. Three-dimensional coronary magnetic resonance angiography with navigator retrospective respiratory gating was performed on 35 patients who had also been subjected to conventional coronary angiography within 4 h of the magnetic resonance examination. Images were evaluated by observers blinded to the conventional angiographic data. For hemodynamically significant stenoses, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were 83, 94, 87, and 93%, respectively.

Magnetic resonance angiography of peripheral and carotid arteries was performed on seven volunteers after they had each been administered a 0.05 mmol/kg dose of MS-325, a new gadolinium-chelate intravascular contrast agent. Quality of images obtained after administration of this contrast agent was statistically significantly better than that of two-dimensional time-of-flight images (without administration of a contrast agent).

47 Grist TM, Polzin JA, Bianco JA, Foo TKF, Bernstein MA, Mistretta CM. Measurement of coronary blood low and flow reserve using magnetic resonance imaging. Cardiology 1997; 88:80-89. Coronary low rate, flow velocity, peak flow, and coronary flow reserve (CFR) were determined for 10 healthy volunteers at rest and during pharmacologically induced hyperemia using a magnetic resonance phase-contrast technique with view-sharing. Magnetic resonance measurements were similar to those reported in the literature for healthy adults.
