With aromatic primary amines, it was shown that consumption of the starting material did not correspond to the formation of products regardless of the fact that the final yields were almost quantitative. This observation suggests there might be a (meta)stable intermediate in the reaction system. We presume this is a Drago's salt; see, ref 5b.
