36. The Second Banking Directive is currently under revision, with a first draft of Commission ideas bound to be produced by the end of 1998. Among the issues under consideration are the harmonisation of rules on the conduct of business, a more liberal interpretation of the 'general good' provisions, and probably the issues of mortgage banking and securitisation (interview with Commission official, June 1998).
