Equilibrium association constants (Ka) were determined for a series of six ring hairpin polyamides which differ with respect to substitution at the amino and carboxyl-termini. A positive charge at the carboxyl-terminus and no substitution of an amino-terminal imidazole was preferred for optimal orientation and sequence specficity.
