15. In the absence of hexamethylphosphoric triamide the reaction was unsuccessful. Even in the presence of hexamethylphosphoric triamide, the coupling of 6b with 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl iodide was unsuccessful for the synthesis of a lignan, benchequiol [2e], isolated from Bupleurum salicifolium.
