Modifications of testosterone-dependent behaviors by estrogen receptor alpha gene disruption in male mice

Ogawa S, Washburn TF, Taylor J, Lubahn DB, Korach KS, Pfaff DW. Modifications of testosterone-dependent behaviors by estrogen receptor alpha gene disruption in male mice. Endocrinology 1998; 139:5058-5069. A paper describing in some detail the sexual behaviour of ERKO mice. ERα is needed for ejaculation but not for mounting behaviour. Differential colocalization of estrogen receptor beta (ER beta) with oxytocin and vasopressin in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the female rat brain: An immunocytochemical study
-
Alves SE, Lopez V, McEwen BS, Weiland NG. Differential colocalization of estrogen receptor beta (ER beta) with oxytocin and vasopressin in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the female rat brain: An immunocytochemical study. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 1998; 95:3281-3286. This is one of a number of immunohistochemical papers that attempts to identify cells in the central nervous system that harbour ERβ, and to determine whether the receptor is co-localized with neuropeptides. All of these papers must be carefully examined because the results from different laboratories are not always similar. Differences in antibodies, animal treatments and tissue handling may account for some of the variability.
