Lower pole intrarenal calculi have the lowest success with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. This study defined intrarenal collecting system anatomic variables which prevented clearance of stone fragments after extracorporal shockwave lithotripsy, including long and narrow lower pole infundibulum, and an acute infundibulopelvic angle. These authors felt that the same variables had less effect on the success of ureteropyeloscopic lithotripsy.
