Lower caliceal stone clearance after shock wave lithotripsy or ureteroscopy: The impact of lower pole radiographic anatomy
-
Elbahnasy AM, Shalhav AL, Hoenig DM, et al. Lower caliceal stone clearance after shock wave lithotripsy or ureteroscopy: the impact of lower pole radiographic anatomy. J Urol 1998; 159:676-682. Lower pole intrarenal calculi have the lowest success with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. This study defined intrarenal collecting system anatomic variables which prevented clearance of stone fragments after extracorporal shockwave lithotripsy, including long and narrow lower pole infundibulum, and an acute infundibulopelvic angle. These authors felt that the same variables had less effect on the success of ureteropyeloscopic lithotripsy.
