This study shows that ASCA and pANCA assays are highly disease specific for CD and UC in children. These serologic tests can help clinicians diagnose and categorize IBD cases and may be useful in making therapeutic decisions (eg, colectomy for patients with UC).

This study points out that delayed bone age often results in an overestimation of low BMD in pediatric CD. The results of BMD should be interpreted in terms of bone or height age, rather than chronologic age.
