Violence by people discharged from acute psychiatric inpatient facilities and by others in the same neighborhoods. Arch Gen Psychiatry 1998; 55:393-401. In this study the authors analyzed data from the landmark MacArthur Violence Risk Assessment Study to compare rates of violence among mentally ill, mentally ill and substance-abusing, and nonmentally ill persons living in the same community. Individuals were monitored for violent acts for 1 year after discharge from a psychiatric hospital.
