The competitive experiments were conducted as described in the experimental section except that a mixture of o-phenylbenzyl allyl carbonate (0.835 mmol, 0.225 g) and p-phenylbenzyl allyl carbonate (0.835 mmol, 0.225 g) was used. In the control experiment, 0.61 g of acetonitrile was added to the reaction medium in place of DMCyD.
