The value (Formula presented) is arbitrarily taken to be the distance beyond which the hydrogen molecular ion system is considered dissociated (not ionized, for the energy of the system is fixed at (Formula presented) the three free-particle asymptotic states are not energetically accessible and the system can only fly apart as (Formula presented) We define the lifetime of dissociation using this arbitrarily chosen distance. Our numerical results indicate that when one of the protons is far from the hydrogen atom by this distance, the chance for the three particles to come back together again is very small
