14. The droplet was placed with an Eppendorf 10 μl pipette. By a measurement of the weight of the droplet, we determined that the droplet is placed with a volume accuracy of 0.1 μl.

16. We can measure the capacitance per unit area by using a spacer of known base area as shown above Fig. 4. The spacer inhibits spreading of liquid, hence a measurement of the capacitance yields the capacitance per unit area. One should take care that water does not creep under the spacer and that air is not captured at the spacer edge.
