    • As pointed out by a referee, it has been known since Deardorf (Ref. 2) that shear reduces the Smagorinsky constant to values below the theoretical value determined by Lilly to maintain RS-SGS energy flux. Figure 10 suggests a generalization of this well-known characteristic to other anisotropic flows.
