    • There are other evidences indicating that the quenching of PL is dominated by the dipole interactions due to the presence of the metal electrode and that the doping phenomenon only affects the first few mono layers of the polymer at the interface (not 50 Å as claimed in Ref. 4). However, a few mono layers of doped polymer at the interface is sufficient to change the nature of the charge injection.

    • The presence of a thin doping layer between the metal electrode and the polymer makes the polymer/metal interface of the MEH-PPV LED insensitive to the work function of the contact metal. This has been referred as the "screening effect" in this manuscript and is analogous to the pinning of surface Fermi level of the inorganic semiconductors, we also use the same terminology in this manuscript.
