The quality of the NMR kinetic data with 1.3 mM α-methylstyrene was not as good as those with 0.32 M α-methylstyrene owing to the error associated with the integration of small signals. As pointed out by one reviewer, the initial rate method using the NMR spectrometer could cause a problem, particularly when the signals of reactants and products are not fully resolved. Reasonable kinetic data could be obtained if one integrates the signals of products rather than those of the reactants and uses an internal standard with an intensity similar to that of the products.
