A mean temperature history that was determined by averaging the individual borehole site results for each of the four continental ensembles and then forming an equally weighted average of the four continental reconstructions yields a reconstruction that is very similar to that shown in Fig. 3, indicating that the mean temperature history is insensitive to the details of aggregation.
