    • We observed a rise-up of 150-200 fs in the longer wavelength side of DCA fluorescence in AN without quencher. This is considered to originate from the dynamic Stokes shift due to solvation. The rise time is consistent with the longitudinal relaxation time of AN estimated previously (Ref. 20).

    • In principle, we should incorporate the mean force potential into account in the diffusion equation [Eq. (2)] to guarantee an equilibrium oscillatory structure of the radial distribution function. However, as shown in Fig. 4, diffusion gives small influences on the decay curve in the time region <2 ps. Therefore, we believe that the term due to the mean force potential can be neglected in these discussions.

    • -3M). On the other hand, the existence of AN molecules cannot be neglected at concentrations of 0.15-1 M. However, the existence of AN molecules may make the rdf of DMA smoother, and make the effective contact distance larger. This is because there exists AN molecules between DCA and DMA or between DMA and DMA. If the rdf of pure DMA is used instead of that of DMA in AN in the calculation of the decay curve, the decay rate at shorter times will be overestimated. The "true" decay curve due to ET quenching for DCA and DMA in ACN is considered to lie between the solid and broken curves in Figs. 2 and 3(b).
