note
-
The Gaussian distribution occurs in many physical systems where the events are statistically independent. This is not expected of a junction point whose placement is influenced by local composition of the neighboring chains.

note
-
Clearly, the description is somewhat subjective and depends on the choice of the peak intensity. In this work, the peak level is chosen as approximately 20 000 counts. In real experiments, depending on the sample, the time required to reach this level is about 1 h for labeled polymer films. Longer experiments, yielding higher peak counts, are not very practical, and the situation becomes more complicated because of lamp-drift problems. High-repetition laser excitation may overcome these problems.
