    • note
    • 1H NMR spectrum. The 7α-methyl ketone 3a shows a characteristic signal of a pseudo-equatorial 7β-proton (dq) at 2.41 ppm, shifted downfield compared with a pseudo-axial 7α-proton in 3b at 2.04 ppm. The singlet of C(18)-methyl protons of compound 3a at 0.71 ppm integrates 3:2 versus the analogous signal of the opposite epimer 3b at 0.74 ppm.
