    • Solvatochromism (= displacement of the absorption bands under the influence of a solvent) is a direct consequence of the change in dipole upon excitation. Consequently, we observe a pronounced shift of the absorption maximum of 23 nm for 3d (Δμ = 9D) in dimethylformamide compared to dioxane. On the other hand, 3g has an absorption maximum at the same wavelength in both solvents.

    • We assume that the somewhat high absorption is caused by complex formation between 3g and TNFM. By reducing the amount of TNFM or by using a different sensitizer we hope to reduce the absorption losses.
