    • 5. PAM was originally coined to designate the coordination polymer consisting of monomeric linkages of metal-nitrogen=nitrogen bonds. In view of uncertainties of the structure of the self-assembly of DHAB derivatives obtained in the presence of transition metal ions, the definition of PAM may be extended to include polymeric clusters of metal ions bound to azo ligands.

    • 12. The fact that each PAM hydrolyzes only a few proteins implicates that the overall charge and three-dimensional shape of a protein substrate are important factors for the selectivity of the PAM. Once the parent protein is cleaved, however, the resulting proteins may or may not undergo rapid hydrolysis by the PAM depending on the protein structure, sometimes leading to formation of many small peptide fragments.
