    • The guanine and adenine bases in deoxytetranucleotide d(GTAC) (9) are in very different environments, which may influence the rate of depurination of alkylated 9. The half-lives of depurination of N-7-alkylguanine 6 and N-3-alkyladenine 7 from calf thymus DNA modified by 4 were determined to be 40 and 18 h, respectively. This result indicated that the adducts alkylated at adenine of calf thymus DNA showed a more rapid rate of depurination than the adducts alkylated at guanine, regardless of the location of the purine bases in the DNA.
