Edward Bellamy and the New Deal: The Revival of Bellamyism in the 1930s
-
Bellamy lived from 1850 to 1898. The literature on Bellamy is extensive. You can read about his influence well into the twentieth century in James J. Kopp, "Edward Bellamy and the New Deal: The Revival of Bellamyism in the 1930s," Utopian Studies 4, (1991): 10-16.

Consortium
-
"Consortium," Oxford English Dictionary, 2d ed. My search for the first use of the term "library consortium" included examination of the Bibliogaraphy of Library Economy, 1876-1920, the precursor to Library Literature, and then examination of the latter publication since 1921.

The overall SDC study included preliminary surveys sent to 2,600 colleges and universities with 698 returns reflecting consortia membership and some 409 possible academic library consortia. However, using a screening process (Patrick, Guidelines for Library Cooperation, 6, 10), the number of consortia surveyed in the study and included in the Directory was 125.

Report 7 November
-
Patrick notes the work in academic consortia of Lewis D. Patterson, who in this same time period authored several reports on academic consortia including Consortia in American Higher Education, Report 7 (November 1970), ERIC Clearing-house on Higher Education. Patterson also completed his dissertation on this topic at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and edited one of the first newsletters devoted to academic consortia, The Acquainter: An International Newsletter for Academic Consortia.

The Library of Tomorrow
-
I have to note that the lead paper in the Emily Danton edited work cited above, The Library of Tomorrow, is titled "Looking Forward, A Fantasy" by P.P. Keppel. And tying back to Edward Bellamy again, two of the Utopian novels written as a response to his work included Arthur Bird's Looking Forward: A Dream of the United States of America in 1999 (1899) and Richard C. Michaelis, Looking Further Forward, An Answer to Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy (1890). This does not imply that "looking forward" is always a "fantasy" or a Utopian exercise, but it has been known to be.
