Africa in history: The end of universal narratives

According to Steven Feierman, one of the first effects of the appearance of African history was to dissolve world history. History and imperialism: A century of theory, from marx to postcolonialism

Patrick Wolfe, for instance, has argued that diasporan post-colonialism has derived much of its disruptive energy from a strategically provisional juggling of poststructuralism and Marxism. note
-
A study of the reception of post-colonial theory in various parts of the Third World would be instructive. In Beijing in December 1996, a colleague and I were told by one of China's foremost post-modernist scholars that in China post-colonialism is seen as a conservative discourse, closely associated with the government.

Keith Hancock and imperial economic history: A retrospect forty years on
-
ch.7 in Frederick Madden and D.K. Fieldhouse (eds.), London
-
Note, however, that after emphasizing that Hancock felt he had a normative role in writing the Survey. Fieldhouse states that in the post-colonial era the economic historian is relieved of this obligation. David Fieldhouse, 'Keith Hancock and Imperial Economic History: A Retrospect Forty Years On', ch.7 in Frederick Madden and D.K. Fieldhouse (eds.), Oxford and the Idea of Commonwealth (London, 1982), 162. This, of course, does not settle the issue I have raised.
