1. This paper is based on a November 1992 study, funded by the Swedish Institute [63]. In 1996 two UFSC researchers published a study of the Florianópolis science park, taking also as point of departure Håkansson's network theory [45]. An attempt to merge our works was not successful. I am thankful for their permission to use their materials and results. While the theoretical framework has similarities, we disagree fundamentally on our interpretation of Hákansson's network model. This does not detract from the excellence of their work.
