    • note
    • Termination by reaction of two living chains may also result in two dead chains, not one. The relative frequency of such so-called disproportionation events, which are due to hydrogen abstraction, depends on the polymerizing material. This is irrelevant for our purposes; all that matters is that each termination event annihilates two living chains.

    • note
    • We adopt the standard approximation that the dead chain solution is a fixed environment for the living dynamics. As is well-known, the dead chain solution changes quasistatically over a much longer time scale than characteristic living population time scales.
