Exploring the metabolic and genetic control of gene expression on a genomic scale
-
DeRisi JL, Vishwanath RI, Brown PO: Exploring the metabolic and genetic control of gene expression on a genomic scale. Science 1997, 278:680-686. The 6000 open reading frames of Saccharomyces cerevisiae are used for microarray-based gene expression studies. Gene expression is monitored during glucose limitation, and during the underexpression and overexpression of specific transcription factors.

Bacterial transcript imaging by hybridization of total RNA to oligonucleotide arrays
-
De Saizieu A, Certa U, Warrington J, Gray C, Keck W, Mous J: Bacterial transcript imaging by hybridization of total RNA to oligonucleotide arrays. Nat Biotechnol 1998, 16:45-48. Results of gene expression microarrays in Streptococcus pneumonias and Haemophilus influenzae. Assays of oligonucleotide arrays and psoralen-biotin labeling of RNA were performed. Genes expressed during the development of competence, and during exponential and stationary phase were examined in S. pneumoniae.
