    • The likely cause of the increased background current is partial clogging of the frit between the counter and working cells, caused by oxidation of the electrolyte solution at the counter electrode. Typically this is avoided [27] by the use of sacrificial ferrocene in the counter cell, but for obvious reasons we could not afford the possibility of Fe contamination.
