To broaden its scope and to seek greater professional consensus, the 1987 Commission also included representatives from several other professional and scholarly organizations, albeit some different ones than the new Commission. The organizations represented on the 1987 Commission were the International Association of Business Communicators and its Educators Academy, the Foundation for Public Relations Research and Education (now named the Institute for Public Relations Research and Education), as well as the American Marketing Association, the International Communication Association, the American Management Association and the Speech Communication Association (now named the National Communication Association). The Commission that had been formed in 1983 was established jointly by the Public Relations Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in conjunction with its Educators Section.
