Typical experimental procedure: Into a 50 mL three neck round-bottom flask equipped with a nitrogen inlet, a magnetic stirrer, a Dean-Stark trap and a condenser were charged 4, 4′-difluorobenzophenone (0.6546 g, 3.00 mmol), 3 (0.8532 g, 3.00 mmol), benzophenone (8.0 g), cesium carbonate (0.10 g, 0.3 mmol), and calcium carbonate (0.90 g, 9.0 mmol). The mixture was heated at 200 °C for 1 h, and then it was raised to 250 °C for another 1 h. Finally, the temperature was raised to 300 °C to keep the polymer in solution and kept at that temperature for 4 h. The mixture was cooled, washed consecutively with 100 mL of hot acetone, 100 mL of 5% aqueous HCl, 200 mL of water, and 100 mL of hot acetone. After drying at 100 °C in vacuo for 24 h, a quantative yield of an off-white powder polymer was obtained.
