    • If a constant surface charge density σ is assumed, the boundary condition then becomes ψ|8 = 4πσ/∈. In real systems, some of the ionized surface sites can be neutralized by the binding of amall ions from the solution. The actual surface charge is not fixed but depends on the surface potential (see also ref. 30). Neither the surface potential nor the surface charge are Axed, and the boundary conditions are mixed. The choice of simple boundary conditions is only an approximation of a real surface-solution system. The quality of the approximation depends on the details of the experimental system.
