Amisulpride, which in lower doses is an indirect dopamine agonist, and imipramine were significantly more effective than placebo in this study of a heterogeneous group of chronic depressions. Although generally much better tolerated than the TCA, amisulpride did elicit side effects suggestive of post-synaptic dopamine blockade in a subgroup of women.
