    • Two different types of errors are considered: a sequence of three consecutive monomer insertions (PPP or EEE) and a sequence of two consecutive monomer insertions (PP or EE). The amount of PPP and EEE errors can be calculated directly from the PPP and EEE triads. The percentage of PP and EE sequence errors can be estimated from the intensities of EEP + PEE (and EPP + PPE) triads minus twice the intensity of PPP and EEE triads (each EEE (or PPP) triad gives twice the amount of EEP + PEE (or PPE + EPP) triads). Therefore, the amount of nonalternating insertions na is given as na = [EEP + PEE] + [PPE + EPP] - [EEE] - [PPP].

    • This method insures a reasonably constant monomer feed ratio throughout the polymerization.
