For an excellent discussion of the search and struggle for sustainability, the special issue of Futures, 26(2) 1994, is highly recommended. Obviously sustainability is a preferred choice for us all, but the vision appears to be receding as the reality of overpopulation, environmental damage, and other threats to survival grow.
