    • From a historical perspective, this instrument follows in purpose the ambient-pressure, sub-resonant (i.e., driven), torsional internal-friction apparatus described by J. Woirgard, Y. Sarrazin, and H. Chaumet, Rev. Sci. Instrum. 48, 1322 (1977); our design is more compact, however, and distinctly more robust in that it operates at substantially higher temperatures and in a controlled -oxygen-activity environment.
