The authors compared the outcome of photocoagulation, plaque radiotherapy, and external beam irradiation on 23 patients with circumscribed and 5 patients with diffuse choroidal hemangiomas. These data on small sample sizes indicate plaque brachytherapy as an effective alternative to conventional photocoagulation and external beam irradiation in cases with the circumscribed form.

First large study on proton therapy for choroidal hemangiomas providing the results of 13 patients with a mean follow-up of 26 months. The authors consider proton irradiation as a useful treatment for cases in which photocoagulation cannot be performed.
