The authors used acoustic, perceptual and interview data to retrospectively assess the effects of manual therapy on a group of patients with functional dysphonia. The majority of patients achieved normal voice following a single treatment session. Long-term follow-up revealed brief, self-limiting relapses in 68% of patients who initially responded favorably.
