Arthroscopic Bankart repair in a high demand patient population
-
Bacilla P, Field LD, Savoie FH III: Arthroscopic Bankart repair in a high demand patient population. Arthroscopy 1997, 13:51-60. This is the best report to date following arthroscopic suture anchor repair. Ninety-three percent of patients had excellent results and 90% were able to return to their sport. Caution is necessary, however, due to the short-term follow-up of only 30 months (range, 18-36 months).

Arthroscopic transglenoid multiple suture repair: 2 to 8 year results in 150 shoulders

Torchia ME, Caspari RB, Asselmeier MA, Beach WR, Gayari M: Arthroscopic transglenoid multiple suture repair: 2 to 8 year results in 150 shoulders. Arthroscopy 1997, 13:609-619. This is the longest follow-up of this technique reported by one of the pioneers. Unfortunately, only 31 patients were available for physical examination. The results were inferior in younger age groups (< age 16) and with longer follow-up (>2 years). This emphasizes the need for long term follow-up of these types of procedures.

Arthroscopic reconstruction of traumatic anterior instability of the shoulder: The Caspari technique
-
Savoie FH III, Miller CD, Field LD: Arthroscopic reconstruction of traumatic anterior instability of the shoulder: the Caspari technique. Arthroscopy 1997, 13:201-209. This is the best report to date on the arthroscopic transglenoid suture technique. The authors reviewed the unacceptably high recurrence rate in the literature and identified contributing factors in many of the studies, including insufficient release of labral-ligamentous tissue, too few sutures, and young age of patients.
