Midodrine is the first drug that is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of orthostatic hypotension.

Patients with neurogenic orthostatic hypotension may have a normocytic normochromic anemia as a result of denervation, which is treatable with erythropoietin. Treatment improves orthostatic tolerance.

Many acute autonomic neuropathies appear to be postinfectious and may be immune-mediated. Treatment with intravenous immune globulin during the acute stage may be efficacious. When and if treatment should be instituted is uncertain. The authors consider intravenous immune globulin within 6-8 weeks of onset of acute panautonomic neuropathy.
