Hepatology 1997, 25:270-277. Studies in gallbladders from CFTR knockout mice showing that cAMP-induced fluid secretion involves not only the inhibition of apical NaCl reabsorption (via PKA-mediated inhibition of apical NHE-3 activity) but also activation of ion secretory processes (via CFTR). Although CFTR (-/-) gallbladders were not capable of cAMP-stimulated fluid secretion, fluid reabsorption was unaffected.
