The measurements consisted on the irradiation of 0.9 mm thick TLD-100 chips with 5.3 MeV alpha particles (range ≈20 μm in LiF) and the subsequent readout placing the exposed face either towards or against the photomultiplier tube. The observed difference in TL signal, due to light absorption in the chip, was about 3%. Half of this value represents an upper limit for our HCP versus gamma cases (where we have used 0.4 mm thick chips).
