Rat MHC-linked peptide transporter alleles strongly influence peptide binding by HLA-B27 but not B27-associated inflammatory disease
-
Simmons WA, Leong LY, Satumtira N, Butcher GW, Howard JC, Richardson JA, Slaughter CA, Hammer RE, Taurog JD. Rat MHC-linked peptide transporter alleles strongly influence peptide binding by HLA-B27 but not B27-associated inflammatory disease. J Immunol 1996, 156:1661-1667. This study showed a qualitative difference in the endogenous peptides eluted from B27 molecules from two Tap polymorphic rat strains. Both rats strains developed spontaneous inflammatory disease.

Covalent HLA-B27/peptide complex induced by specific recognition of an aziridine mimic of arginine
-
Weiss GA, Valentekovich RJ, Collins EJ, Garboczi DN, Lane WS, Schreiber SL, Wiley DC: Covalent HLA-B27/peptide complex induced by specific recognition of an aziridine mimic of arginine. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 1996, 93:10945-10948. At position 2 of the HLA-B27 binding peptide, the authors replaced arginine with an aziridine-containing ligand. This ligand alkylated cysteine at position 67 of the B27 molecule. The authors suggest that the use of such ligands may generate T-cell anergy (if administered alone) or activation (with co-ligands inducing costimulatory signals).
