note
-
Although independent media cover actions more frequently (and more objectively), even pro-government papers often respond to demonstrations, publicizing issues that otherwise might never be covered at all. 13. In an interview, the head of Greenpeace Slovakia noted that the limits of the Slovak branch are largely due to resource shortages and that there are other campaigns that the organization would like to pursue but at present cannot.

The Walk began in Belgium with 200 activists, mostly from Western Europe but also including "walkers" from East European countries such as Belarus and Ukraine. Numbers fluctuated throughout the year as some walk-ers would depart for a few days and then return to the group. The number given for the Walk in Slovakia is an average over the three-week period.
