Recently, Ohno et al. reported that the hydride transfer reaction between the 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative and the sulfinylated pyridinium salt takes place in the face occupied by the sulfinyl oxygen; see ref. 13c. The hydride transfer reaction between 7 and 13 is thought to occur in a similar manner, because the stereoslectivity of the hydride transfer was the same with their findings.
