    • 2 foil was the intact member of a broken double foil pair. Only the off-center magnetic field points are shown for this foil because surviving members of broken double foil pairs were observed to exhibit a higher degree of molecular attenuation than known single foils of similar thickness. This effect may be due to small pieces of the broken foil which adhered to the intact foil or to pieces of the broken foil remaining attached to the holder and intercepting a portion of the ion beam. Therefore, it was not possible to reliably characterize broken foil pairs as either single or double foils.
