Another useful theory is the modified spin-wave theory, which is nearly equivalent to the Schwinger-boson-mean-field theory. See M. Takahashi: Phys. Rev. B 40 (1989) 2494. In the present paper, the Schwinger-boson-mean-field theory is used for keeping the spherical symmetry in the spin space and for the SU(N) extension.
