note
-
BoI and Fairbank (see Ref. 24) detected the magnetic field inside a rotating superconducting cylinder by means of an external measurement of its magnetic moment. They appropriately called the effect they observed the London moment, but there is no justification for the common practice of referring to the internal field itself as the London moment.

note
-
Equation (1.2) is derived from the Ginzburg-Landau theory by minimizing the Ginzburg-Landau free energy with respect to A and recognizing the resulting equation as Ampère's law, with the right-hand side of equation (1.2) playing the role of the current density. The same equation is derived from the London theory by identifying ℏ θ with London's superpotential [London 1961 (see Ref. 19), 70-73, 150]. The Ginzburg-Landau theory reduces to the London theory in cases where the condensate density n * is spatially uniform.

note
-
Note that the last term on the right-hand side of equation (1.5) comes from the motion of the ions and from the assumption of charge neutrality, not from a coordinate transformation. The argument of this article is carried out entirely in an inertial frame of reference.
