    • The assignment of these features is still uncertain. The structure at 1.5 eV has been shown to be an indirect phonon-assisted excitation [8] while transitions above 2.5 eV seem to correspond to direct O 2p-Cu 3d charge transfer excitations with a pronounced edge at ≃3 eV.

    • A quantitative study of this aspect would require the explicit calculation of the excited states of the N-particle system. Within our approach this can be done with an extension of the configuration expansion, an implementation which is straight-forward in a perturbative scheme but which requires further efforts to deal with the strongly correlated systems of interest here.
