However, for the large cells that we shall be using the overwhelming contribution is from the position of the lead atoms with the separation between them along the c-axis being determined unequivocally by the dimensions of the bilayers. The XRD patterns were simulated using an application written in Mathcad by one of us (M.S.) taking into account the particular sequence of monolayers as the unit cell and generating the coordinates as described in ref 31.
38. It should be emphasized at this point that the so-called "turnover" refers only to the end result, which may be achieved without an actual somersault or flipping over of the amphiphile molecules.
